COVID-19: Specified countries and areas with implications for returning travellers or visitors arriving in the UK

Category 1: Travellers should self-isolate, even if asymptomatic, and call NHS 111 to inform of recent travel.

Category 2: Travellers do not need to undertake any special measures, but if they develop symptoms they should self-isolate and call NHS 111.

The guidance for Italy, Iran, Daegu or Cheongdo (Republic of Korea), Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam applies to individuals who returned from these specific areas on or after 19 February 2020.

Booking an Appointment

In order to make sure that you can see a doctor when it’s really necessary, we run a system where all patients are spoken to by a doctor or our emergency care practitioner prior to being given an appointment. This means that if your query can be dealt with quickly over the phone, it will be (so saving you and us time). However if a doctor needs to see you they will organise an appointment for you usually the same day, the exception to this will be if you can’t come down or if the most appropriate doctor for you to see isn’t in that day.

 

The doctors have asked the receptionists to ask patients for a brief reason for needing to speak to the doctor. This is so that they can call any urgent cases first, for example if a patient had chest pain the doctor would want to ring them before somebody who had a sore throat. This does mean that it can sometimes be several hours before the doctor rings a patient back. However if you are on the list they will ring you. If there are times it won’t be convenient for you to take the call just let our receptionists know and they will make a note for the doctor. The doctor will then do their absolute best to call you when it’s convenient. However due to the nature of medicine the doctor doesn’t know how long any call or appointment will take and so sometimes it just isn’t possible.

 

They will try you 3 times but after that if they can’t reach you they will ask you to rebook.

 

We also offer early morning appointments Monday - Friday. These are pre- bookable, from 7.20am until 8.00am and are with doctors, nurses and health care assistants.

Please note, we advise patients to telephone the surgery to make appointments rather than come down. This is to save time, as you may be politely asked to go home and wait for a call from the duty doctor.

If you are unable to attend your appointment, please let us know so we can offer this to another patient.
