Below is a list of our services, this list changes from time to time so please contact reception if you need any specific information.
The Antenatal Clinics are run by Midwives and are held on Mondays & Tuesdays.
Your baby will receive a 6 week check with one of our doctors.
These clinics are held on Tuesday afternoons from 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm. Appointments are sent out by post by the Child Health Service in Leicester. If you struggle to make these times please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you elsewhere.
We have several Practice Therapists who visit our surgery each week. Appointments with them are given after referral by our doctors.
Some of our doctors undertake minor surgery procedures such as specialist joint injections or mole removal. The doctor will discuss any of these procedures with you and then refer you into one of our clinics if required.
Long Term Conditions Clinics
By long term conditions we mean Asthma, Diabetes, Heart Disease, COPD (a condition similar to Asthma affecting the lungs) and patients who’re living with the after effects of strokes.
These clinics are run by the Practice Nurses. We will write to you approximately once a year when your review is due. We are starting to bring these reviews in line with your month of birth. If you have more than one condition we will try and book them all at the same time, but please mention this when booking to help our receptionists. For many conditions a blood test is needed and this should be done at least 2 weeks prior to your clinic review. This allows time for the results to come back and these will be given to you by the nurse at the review.
These are available to all patients aged between 40 and 75 every 5 years. They start with a blood test followed by a telephone appointment to discuss your blood test results and your lifestyle and diet. The nurse will then give you advice about your future likelihood of getting heart disease or diabetes.
All ladies between the ages of 25 to 45 are advised to have three-yearly smears. Over 45’s are advised to have one every five years. You will be sent an invite by the health authority and should not ask for a smear unless you have had an invite. Please make an appointment with the Practice Nurse for your smear.
All our Practice Nurses and Doctors can give advice. We fit long acting contraceptives such as the coil and the implant here at the surgery as well as doing contraceptive injections and prescribing the contraceptive pill.
We have doctors who can fit the coil and the implant. You will need to have a discussion with the GP prior to booking into a clinic for this. We undertake emergency coil fits as well as routine ones.
Our Practice Nurses can give advice and vaccinations for patients travelling abroad.
Please complete one of our forms which you can obtain from reception. Your form will be reviewed and then we will telephone you to advise if you need an appointment for travel vaccinations.
Some services may involve information sharing with other agencies. This will only happen in line with the Data Protection law.
Please call after 11am to enquire about your test results as our reception staff will have more time to deal with your call after that time.
Most test results come back within 3 to 5 working days but a few take significantly longer. When you have your test you should be told how long it is likely to be before the results come back.
Due to the large number of tests we undertake, we ask patients to call for their results as we don't have sufficient staff to contact everybody individually. When you do call us the reception team can tell you if the doctor has commented that your results are normal or if you need to speak further with the doctor. They are not allowed to give any other information.
Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.
Most of the services we offer are free under the NHS, however we are more than happy to accommodate non NHS work such as life assurance medicals, fitness to undertake sports, pre-employment medicals, HGV medicals, DVLA forms and insurance forms.
As these services are not covered by the NHS funding we have a tarrif of charges for them. The fee will reflect both the doctor's time to carry out the service and the cost of nursing or secretarial support, stationery and consumables.
These services can be arranged by appointment. The reception staff will inform you of the charge.
This is a reminder that the NHS Breast Screening Programme provides free breast screening every three years for all women in the UK aged 50 and over and saves hundreds of lives. Please
Women aged between 50 and 70 are currently invited every three years.
A recent study has shown that digital mammography is better for screening younger women and women with denser breasts, and is equally effective as film mammography in older women. As a result, the programme is now being gradually extended to women aged 47 to 49, as well as to those aged 71 to 73.
Once women reach the upper age limit for routine invitations for breast screening they are encouraged to make their own appointment. Please call the number at the bottom of this article, if it is more than 3 years since your last mammogram and you would like to be screened.
Women are invited to attend for screening at the purpose-built breast care centre at the Glenfield Hospital or alternatively there is a mobile unit which aims to bring screening services closer to home.
Screening can help cancer be detected and treated earlier which means women can have a much better chance of survival. The latest research shows that the NHS Breast Screening Programme is now saving 1,400 lives every year in England.
If you have been invited for screening, or have been for screening and have any questions about the result, you should contact the name and address shown on your invitation letter or result letter. If you are worried about a specific problem, or otherwise worried about the risks of cancer, then you should talk to your GP.

The practice has become an official parkrun practice. This means we want to encourage doctors, staff and patients to join a parkrun.
Come to parkrun if you want to:
You can walk, run, volunteer, take your dog, take your baby in a buggy but what's really important is that you join in and enjoy being outdoors with lots of other people. This can help you feel great and benefit from all the health benefits of doing exercise.
The nearest parkrun is at Conkers in Moira every Saturday morning at 9am and it's free. Hundreds of people join in and so it's quite a sight! There are lots of other parkruns too but see their website for more info.
If you'd like to speak to somebody in the practice who's done a parkrun please ask at reception. There are a few who do one regularly and several others who've done at least one.

What is a veteran?
A veteran is anyone who has served for at least one day in the Armed Forces, whether regular or reserve. It means the same as ‘ex service personnel’ or ‘ex-forces’, although not all veterans know, choose or want to associate with the term ‘veteran’. This is particularly the case amongst younger veterans who often refer to themselves as ‘ex-forces’, due to the common belief that a veteran is someone who fought in the First / Second World War.
How can we help veterans?
Whilst many aspects of the health needs of veterans are the same as for the general public, there are sometimes significant differences, particularly in relation to conditions attributable to service life and the impact upon families. These differences can be reflected in the way in which healthcare is delivered, the range and types of some specific services provided and the long-term impact upon patients and families. If you need some help with your health arising from being a veteran please let reception know this. The lead doctor for veterans is Dr Houghton.

We need to know which of our patients are military veterans. Recently we have asked this question on our registration paperwork but we are sure there are many of our patients who are veterans that we don’t know about. If you are a veteran please let us know by contacting reception and telling us which of the forces you were in and we will code this on your patient record. Or you can email us with these details to Ibstock.firstname.lastname@example.org but please add in your name, address and date of birth so we can identify your record on our system.
NHS England has launched an engagement exercise to seek views on veterans mental and physical health services. The supporting survey will run until 22 May, with responses helping to inform the reprocurement of Op COURAGE: The Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service and future plans for the Veterans Trauma Network (for Service related physical health conditions).
Whilst we are particularly keen on hearing from veterans, we are also keen to hear from Service leavers, reservists and their families, as well as those providing care and support in this area.
